The closest match for a Robin Hood chess set is the Medieval Times Robin Hood set of chessmen, a hand-painted 32-piece collection sold without a board. It suits collectors who already own a compatible chessboard. For a complete medieval-themed option, consider the Crusades set, which includes a 17-inch board. The remaining picks offer different themed or beginner-friendly alternatives, but they are not Robin Hood sets.

Medieval Times Robin Hood Chessmen
Best for: Buyers specifically seeking Robin Hood-themed chessmen, especially those who already have a board. This is the only listed product directly identified as a Robin Hood set, so it is the clearest choice for the search.
The set contains 32 solid resin pieces that are hand painted and have felt bottoms. The listed king is 3 1/4 inches tall, and the pieces have 1-inch base diameters. The queen, bishop, knight, rook, and pawn range from 3 1/8 to 2 5/8 inches tall.
Limitation: The product is explicitly sold without a board. Check that your board’s squares can accommodate pieces with 1-inch bases before choosing it.
Crusades Red And White Knights Set
Best for: Shoppers who want a medieval conflict theme and a board in the same set. Its red-and-white armored Maltese knights make it a thematic alternative, although the listed design is Crusades-inspired rather than Robin Hood-themed.
The set features solid resin pieces and a 17-inch board. The pieces are hand painted and have fully felted bottoms. The men come in a decorative box with foam storage, which is useful for keeping the pieces together between games.
Limitation: Choose this for an armored-knight look, not for Robin Hood characters. The product information does not specify individual piece heights or board-square dimensions.
Bridge Collection Forest Crowd Chessboard
Best for: Buyers drawn to forest settings, woodland characters, or rustic home décor. It is not a Robin Hood set, but its nature-themed design may appeal to shoppers who want a storybook-like alternative.
The wooden chess set measures 15 inches by 15 inches. Its described pieces include woodland animals such as bears, moose, deer, hawks, and raccoons, alongside pine-tree rooks. The product is presented as both a playable game and a decorative accent for spaces such as cabins, lodges, or country-style rooms.
Limitation: The theme is wildlife rather than medieval characters. The listed details do not provide piece heights or storage information.
The Legend Of Zelda Collector’s Chess Set
Best for: Zelda fans who want character-based chess pieces rather than a historical Robin Hood theme. Its 32 custom-sculpted pieces represent heroes and villains from the game series.
The hero side includes Link, Zelda, Impa, Epona, Darunia, and Navi. The opposing side is led by Ganondorf and Twinrova, with additional characters. This set is a strong choice when recognisable franchise characters matter more than a traditional medieval design.
Limitation: This is a Zelda-themed alternative, not a Robin Hood set. The supplied product details do not specify board dimensions or piece measurements.
Story Time Chess Set For Kids
Best for: Families introducing young children to chess. This pick is not Robin Hood-themed, but it is the most clearly described beginner-focused option in the list, with story-based play and an indicated age of 3 and up.
The product is presented as a chess set for family game night and beginners, using a fun story to teach strategic gameplay. Consider it when learning the rules is the priority rather than collecting themed character pieces.
Limitation: It is designed as a children’s learning game, not as a decorative medieval chess set. The supplied information does not describe its piece materials or board dimensions.
Buying Guide: How To Choose A Robin Hood Chess Set
Do you need a complete set or just the pieces?
Check whether the listing includes a board before ordering. The Robin Hood chessmen are explicitly a 32-piece set without a board. If you need both pieces and a playing surface, the Crusades alternative specifically lists a 17-inch board. Confirm the board and pieces are a practical match, especially if buying a separate board and men.
Which theme is closest to Robin Hood?
Choose the Robin Hood-labeled set for the most direct theme match. The Crusades set offers medieval armored figures, while the Forest Crowd set has woodland animals and rustic styling. Zelda and Story Time Chess are better suited to franchise fans and young learners, respectively, rather than shoppers seeking Robin Hood characters.
What details should you compare?
- Piece count: The Robin Hood set lists 32 chessmen, the standard number for a complete chess army.
- Materials and finish: The Robin Hood and Crusades pieces are described as solid resin and hand painted.
- Storage: The Crusades set lists a decorative box with foam storage. Storage details are not supplied for every option.
- Dimensions: The Robin Hood listing gives piece heights and base diameter; the Crusades and Forest Crowd listings give board sizes.
- Intended player: Consider whether the set is mainly for collecting, home décor, regular chess games, or teaching a child.
