Shout At The Devil 40th Anniversary Box Set
Best for comprehensive collection fans who want a substantial Ozzy solo catalog in a single package. This set includes multiple formats and a broad track list (46 tracks) across six discs, making it ideal for listeners who appreciate variety and deep cuts. The wide selection helps compare era-defining Ozzy tracks with remastered or expanded content. Caution: large packaging may require shelf space and careful handling to prevent wear on the extensive booklet and inserts.
Live In Montreal 1981 – Limited Edition Colored Vinyl
Better for fans who prioritize concert-era energy and a distinctive visual presentation. This release highlights Ozzy’s live performance during the early solo years, offered in a limited colored vinyl format. Best for collectors seeking a tactile, shelf-worthy concert artifact rather than studio-centric releases. Limitation: information on exact color variants and pressing numbers is not provided here, so verify availability before purchase.
Sabotage Box Set with Poster, Photo Book, Artwork & Liner Notes
Choose this if you value a comprehensive Black Sabbath cross-release experience alongside Ozzy-era material. This box includes a Sabotage LP set and related artwork/liner notes, appealing to fans who enjoy era-typical packaging and visual companions. Caution: the box includes Black Sabbath content as part of the package, which might affect the focus for some Ozzy-only collectors.
Hand Of Doom 1970-1978 (Picture Disc Collection)
Best for purists who want a focused picture disc subset spanning Ozzy’s early solo career. The set emphasizes visual appeal and compact presentation, ideal for display alongside other vinyl, but may offer fewer tracks than broader box sets. Limitation: picture discs typically have different playback characteristics and may require careful handling to avoid scuffing the surfaces.
Patient Number 9 – Deluxe Boxset
Best for fans seeking a modern, multi-artifact package around Ozzy’s comeback era. The deluxe box includes a gatefold clear vinyl, a foil comic, and a lithograph, making it a visually striking centerpiece for a collection. Caution: as a premium edition, it may be priced higher and could include store-stock caveats or limited regional availability.
Black Sabbath Live 1970–1974 Collector’s Edition
Better for collectors who want to explore Ozzy’s era within Black Sabbath live performances. This limited colored vinyl four-LP set emphasizes historical significance and presentation. Limitation: primarily a Sabbath-focused release; if the goal is solo Ozzy material, this might be secondary to other picks in this list.
Buying Guide
- Format matters: Decide between box-set completeness (multi-disc, posters, booklets) and compact, display-friendly formats (picture discs, colored vinyl). Boxes with extras offer better value for display and reading material.
- Artwork and packaging: If shelf appeal is important, look for deluxe versions with lithographs, posters, or art books. Verify what is included to avoid misaligned expectations.
- Content scope: If you mainly want studio-era Ozzy, prefer sets that feature a broad studio catalog alongside live or rare tracks. For live focus, Montreal and concert-era boxes may be best.
- Pressing and color variants: Colored vinyl and limited editions offer aesthetic appeal, but confirm the pressing quality and availability of a standard black vinyl fallback if preferred.
- Compatibility and care: Limited editions can be fragile or have special packaging. Plan for proper storage, inner sleeves, and protection from dust and handling wear.
- Budget considerations: Deluxe multi-piece boxes tend to be more expensive. Balance price with the value of included extras and track selection.
